In all, the battling Barristers would send 17 batters to the
plate, slash 14 hits, and score 13 runs in the inning. Baker,
Hoffman, and Pete Balestrini would each collect two hits in the
inning. Hoffman would account for 5 RBI.
Following the offensive explosion, a quick discussion
between team managers resulted in an agreement there would
not be enough light for a nine-inning game - the teams would
try to play at least eight. All the minutes wasted arguing with
their own coach meant Kriegman was left with one chance to
try to overcome the Bar Association's 9-run lead. Although
they ultimately scored 2 in the eighth, it was too little too late.
After waiting through the canceled 2020 season... after
waiting six weeks between their last regular season game and
the start of the playoffs... after waiting 7 innings for the offense
to come alive... the Berks County Bar Association softball
team had captured its second league championship.
Hot And Cold
Raymond Baker, of the DA's office, had not collected a hit
since late June. With a little batting advice from fellow assistant
district attorney Michael Schoen, Baker heated up by going
3-for-4 (including two extra-base hits) with two runs scored
and an RBI. Schoen went 3-for-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
Kriegman Killer
In the two games he played against Kriegman & Smith this
year, friend-of-the-Bar Nick Hoffman went 10-for-11 with
5 runs scored and 11 RBI. Those ten hits were 6 doubles, 2
homeruns, and 2 singles - including a walk-off single to win
the previous matchup.
Batting
Streak Broken
Coming into the 2021 championship game, friend-of-theBar
Steve Frank had played in five Berks Bar playoff games. He
did not record a single out in any of those games. So we can
forgive him for going 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI in
this year's title game.
On Deck
With a successful 2021 season completed, we will have to
wait and see if the Berks County Bar Association can defend its
title in 2022. Thanks to all the members of the Bar who played
for the team this season: Michael Wieder, Kelsey Frankowski,
Jordan Fegley, Raymond Baker, Michael Schoen, Bradley
Davis, Colin MacFarlane, Rachel Louviaux, Tim Bitler, Jr.,
and Jay Kurtz.

Association softball team and occasionally pencils
himself into the lineup.
