Barbara Kittrell

Maurice Stone

M

aurice D. Stone 57, passed away on January 6, 2021.
Mr. Stone received an Associate of Applied Science
degree in criminal justice from Wilkes Community
College (NC) in 1983 and a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal
justice from Gardner-Webb University in 1986. Mr. Stone began
his career as a Deputy Sheriff for the Wilkes County, NC Sheriff's
Department. From 1984-1987, he served as a police officer/special
operations agent for the City of Hickory, NC. During his time
as a police officer, Mr. Stone attended the North Carolina Justice
Academy and graduated as the valedictorian of his class. In 1990,
he earned his Juris Doctor degree, with distinction, from Ohio
Northern University's Claude W. Pettit College of Law, graduating
5th out of 111 students. Mr. Stone served as the Assistant District
Attorney for Berks County from 1990-1991 and was assigned to
the trial division. Mr. Stone also served as Conflicts Counsel for the
Berks County Public Defender's Office. In 1990, Mr. Stone also
opened his private practice in Shillington, where he concentrated
on criminal law until his retirement in 2018. In 1996, he was the
Chairman of the Berks County Democratic Party. In 2004, Mr.
Stone appeared in and was admitted to the practicing bar of the
United States Supreme Court in a special ceremony. Mr. Stone is
survived by his wife, Rebecca Batdorf Stone, Esquire and their
dog, Allie.

arbara I. Kittrell, 88, passed away on November 30, 2020.
Ms. Kittrell graduated from Reading High School in 1950.
Ms. Kittrell served as the executive director of the Berks
County Bar Association for over 30 years, retiring in 2007. During
her illustrious career as the executive director she received numerous
prestigious awards through the Bar Association. Ms. Kittrell is
survived by her daughters, Sharon and Sue, her son Jeff, her 4
grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to her family,
her beloved dog, Toby, was her pride and joy the last few years of her
life until he passed shortly before her passing.
