Summer Vacations
Are Back
A
fter more than a year of masks and mandates, most of us
are ready to make memories again with our friends and
family during summer vacations. We asked a few Berks
County Bar Association members if they were planning to return
to their favorite summer destinations.

Jonathon, Kiersten and Valeen Hykes can't wait to hit the road
again this summer. They enjoy the Outer Banks, NC but plan to
head north to Maine.
The Sarno family looks forward to hitting the sand and spending
evenings on the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore.
My family and I have been going to the Jersey shore on
vacation since my daughter was an infant. We love going there
because who doesn't love the beach? Also, the town we stay in,
Sea Isle City, is centrally located to several other beach towns
that we enjoy visiting, such as Stone Harbor, Cape May, and
Ocean City. The kids love walking on the Boardwalks, salt-water
taffy (which we will unfortunately probably sacrifice as a family
when my daughter gets her braces) and riding on the various
rides at Ocean City and Wildwood. The great thing about those
attractions is the tickets never expire. That was huge due to the
COVID-19 shutdowns. We are really looking forward to getting
back to the beach this year because it will mean the beginning of
a return to normalcy for the kids and us. We will still mask up,
because although my husband and I are fully vaccinated, our kids
are too young. That said, we are looking forward to having gelato
on the boardwalk and the kids hopefully being able to ride on a
sanitized Tilt-A-Whirl or Mini-Coaster. I am looking forward
to seeing the ear-to-ear smiles again.

Our family wasn't sure about this year's vacation destination
due to the COVID-19 restrictions. One thing we did know was
that no matter what, we needed to do something. Because we
have a 10 year-old who is not yet able to be vaccinated, we took
what we felt was a somewhat safe route and scheduled some
camping trips, as well as a trip to Maine in September. One of
our favorite places to visit is the Outer Banks but I'm not sure
we will get there this year as we hesitated booking any trips due
to the uncertainty of COVID-19. We also plan to visit Massey's
Landing in Millsboro, DE again this year as soon as school is out.
This was actually the first place we visited last year after COVID.
We found great peace there just knowing we were somewhere
other than home.
