The staff at Park Road Café will help you
"perk up" with meals you can either carry out
or pick up with their curbside service.

At present, the Café is open a few
days a week for carry-out. It has an
app for preorders, which are brought
out to patrons' cars. Alternatively,
customers can now enter the store. All
the tables, chairs and sofas have been
removed and a charming gauntlet has been set up for people to
browse cases and tables laden with food items that to regulars
are just as must-have essentials as that toilet paper she sold early
on.

Charcuterie boxes have become an
instant best-seller.

I actually interviewed Melynda a few months ago for this
issue of The Barrister that was going to focus on celebrating the
Year of Women until COVID-19 pushed that theme aside.
Back then, she credited the success of her business to her ability
to pivot and recognize the things that needed to change to stay
in the profit zone and survive that first year.
The primary reason I selected her over other female
restaurateurs was her motherly mindset of putting people first.
She devoted much of her time and energy in that first year to
supporting charitable causes like Opportunity House's Souper
Bowl and Wine Women and Shoes. As if that wasn't enough,
two to three days a week she hosted learning disabled students
from John Paul II to teach them practical working skills in her
Café. But, it has been her ability to meet the current challenges
that has impressed me even more.

She has remained steadfast to her vision for the Café's menu
to feature a combination of delicious, yet healthy meals. She
tries to keep things simple and hold ingredients in most of her
recipes to five items to keep the flavors crisp and sharp. Just
about everything is from fresh rather than frozen ingredients
and in addition to traditional baked goods, she has a strong
selection of gluten free and keto centric items some of which
are baked on site while some come from a baker she knows and
trusts.
With the help of her devoted and talented staff, Melynda's
latest endeavor has been using a food truck to take her fare to
the neighborhoods on a few of the days her restaurant is closed.
During these crazy times, Melynda is grateful for the loyalty of
her customer base but misses the days when her regulars were
able to sit for hours in the Café. Many of those customers have
grown into friends. Melynda's ability to pivot while remaining

steadfast in her vision for her Café, hopefully means we'll all
be back there soon, drinking from those oversized cups on her
welcoming comfy sofas.
