When I attended law school at the University of Buffalo
in the mid-1980s, I failed to appreciate those women who had
walked an unpaved road in order to make it possible for my
friends and peers to apply and be accepted to law school without
a second thought. Of course, we were qualified to occupy
half of the seats in the room and learn from both male and
female legal scholars and practitioners. Of course, we expected
equal consideration when it came time to apply for jobs with
prestigious law firms, courts and other institutions of business

and education. What we may have failed to appreciate as
anything more than our due, we certainly were ready to more
fully appreciate with the benefit of 30-plus years of age and
experience. So, when my female law school pals and I learned
that the Notorious RBG was coming to our alma mater, we
rushed to log on to our computers, hoping against hope to
score tickets to see her!
Several of my friends were successful in obtaining the
" golden tickets. " I was not so fortunate. I kid you not - these
were hotter tickets to come by than (insert the band of your
choice) tickets! But we agreed that we were going to treat this
as a reunion, for we had not been together as a group since
graduation. So, I shuffled off to Buffalo, ticketless but hopeful,
and anxious to reconnect with my " squad. " The stars aligned,
and one of my friends was able to provide a ticket for the big
event!
