Let's go on a
Scavenger Hunt!
What is Berks Nature Rx? Spending time in nature isn't
a cure for everything that ails us, but is sure does offer some
preventative and therapeutic benefits. And, it is a medical fact
that spending time outdoors, especially in green spaces, is good
for you.

Berks Nature Rx encourages people to commit to spending
at least 120 minutes outside each week. This is a doctorrecommended amount of time outdoors to reap the benefits of
nature, and is an achievable goal even during our busiest times.
Your 120 minutes could consist of visiting a park, walking your
dog, hiking a trail, riding a bike, or simply taking a break in
nature.
BerksNatureRx.com packages easily accessible information
on all of our local natural resources for promotion to our
community, and for use by doctors of all of our local health

This fall, Berks Nature Rx can take you, and your
patients, on a local scavenger hunt!
A fun and easy way to encourage people to spend time outside
is to promote participation in the Berks Nature Rx CountyWide Scavenger Hunt. This is a fun game that players do on
their own time on their own device. Through a free app, called
GooseChase, people will find 25+ missions to complete. These
missions have players looking for objects in nature, and encourage
activity outside in nature!
What do the missions mean, and where must you go to do
them? The Berks Nature Rx County-Wide Scavenger Hunt
missions are designed for everyone - you do not need to travel far
as most missions can be completed in your backyard, local park,
or trail. You complete the missions by taking photos, videos, or
entering text from your phone. Here are a few examples:

visiting for the first time. Need ideas? Go to
www.greaterreadingtrails.com to find local public trails.
* Walking up stairs is a great activity to get your heart
pumping! Look for an outdoor staircase (like at your local
park or library). Go up and down the steps 3 times, and share
a picture of the staircase.
You earn points by completing each mission. A major
incentive, of course, is finding new and fun ways to spend time
outside. However, players also like the prize incentives! At the
end of the game (12/31/20), you can win one of five $100 REI
gift cards, and a bunch of other Berks Nature prizes.
So, how do you get started?
1. Download the FREE GooseChase iOS or Android app.
2. Choose to play as a guest, or register for a personal account
with a username & password of your choice.
3. Search for game code '7DWP8J'.
4. Follow the prompts to select or create a player profile.
5. Start completing missions!
Whether engaging in the scavenger hunt, or just looking for
new places to explore, the 27+ miles of trails on Berks Nature's
less-crowded nature preserves offer a perfect opportunity to
engage in outdoor activity while, at the same time, experiencing
the beauty and restorative nature of open space. You will find a
link to all public trails in our community at berksnaturerx.com.

* It is important to stay active at your local parks or
playgrounds. Take a photo of the entrance to a park or
playground that you like to visit.
* Berks County is fortunate to be home to many wonderful
trail systems. Take a video of a trail adventure, and tell us the
name of the trail. It could be your favorite, or a trail you are
