County-level Relative Risk

"Worldometer is run by an international team of developers,
researchers, and volunteers with the goal of making world statistics
available in a thought-provoking and time relevant format to a
wide audience around the world. It is published by a small and
independent digital media company based in the United States. We
have no political, governmental, or corporate affiliation" (from the
website).
On this site continually updated pandemic data are available for
any country around the world, and by state within the U.S. The
data presented in graphic form, showing trends over time, include
total cases, daily new cases, total deaths, and daily new deaths.
Statistical projections through the end of 2020 are provided for
total and daily deaths, daily infections and testing, and hospital
resource use under varying scenarios: current projection, mandates
easing, and universal masks. Looking at the daily new case and
daily new death data as the curve of the 7-day moving average
makes clear at a glance the trend of the pandemic in a country or
state.

As one feature of its response to the pandemic, the Harvard
Global Health Institute has created a COVID Risk Levels Map.
This interactive map of the U.S. allows one to compare the relative
risk of being exposed to the SARS-coV-2 virus at the county level.
Each county is color-coded on this map to indicate risk levels from
lowest (green) through yellow to orange to red (highest). A single
metric was chosen as an indicator of this risk: the 7-day moving
average of daily new cases per 100,000 population. Similar data
is available worldwide by country or region. Once a community
reaches a 7-day moving average of 25 or more cases per 100K
population, it will turn red and uncontrolled community spread
is occurring, necessitating stay-at-home orders to regain control.
As of the date of this writing (9/15/2020) Berks County is in the
yellow risk level (1-9 cases per 100K) with a 7-day rolling average
of 8.1 daily new cases per 100K population. This is not quite as
low as the Pennsylvania state average of 5.1. An average of between
10 and 24 would raise the risk to orange, the level where stay-athome orders are advised unless testing/contact tracing/supported
isolation can be implemented at levels meeting "surge indictator
standards." Anyone planning to travel can use this tool to inform
themselves of the current risk level around the country or world,
and it is designed to give local leaders a standard metric with
which to gauge the state of the pandemic in their community, with
guidance for how to respond to each risk level.

Vaccine Trial Tracker

"The Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS) is the
largest global organization of and for those involved with the
regulation of healthcare and related products, including medical
devices, pharmaceuticals, biologics and nutritional products.
Founded in 1976, RAPS helped establish the regulatory profession
and continues to actively support the professional and lead the
profession as a neutral, non-lobbying nonprofit organization. RAPS
offers education and training, professional standards, publications,
research, knowledge sharing, networking, career development
opportunities and other valuable resources..." (from the website).
On the above page is a link to their COVID-19 Vaccine
Tracker, where a table lists coronavirus candidate vaccines currently
in Phase 1 - 3 clinical trials, as well as major candidates in preclinical stages of development, with the information updated
weekly. Detailed information about each candidate vaccine can
be accessed, including development background, study design,
available study outcomes, and regulatory status.

Pulmonary and Critical Care specialist Dr. Roger Seheult reviews
the current state of the pandemic and discusses advances in our
understanding of the COVID-19 disease process, preventive
strategies for individuals, treatments, and vaccine development.
As of 9/15/2020, he has posted 106 of these lectures. Although
physicians are his target audience, his style of teaching is such that
any interested person would learn from his presentations.
