WE LISTEN, WE CARE,
WE GET RESULTS

When I asked him why he wanted to become
a district judge after several years of private
practice, he told me that he wanted to make
an impression with people, especially young
people, who have done something that he views
as foolish but not necessarily unforgivable.
He wants to turn people around when he can
to prevent them from doing more harm to
themselves and to our community.
young people, who have done something that he views as
foolish but not necessarily unforgivable. He wants to turn
people around when he can to prevent them from doing
more harm to themselves and to our community. I only
knew in a broad sense, and found it enlightening, that Bucks
County has more than one program in place which allows
for Youth (the Youth Aid Panel) and Adults (CAP or the
Community Accountability Program) to seek expungement
after a period of time if certain criteria have been met for
either a non-violent misdemeanor or a summary offense.
In the case of traffic tickets, he is a proponent of the BCBA
Traffic school - a one-day class - where student offenders
complete a program and, if they retain a driving record free
of citations, eliminates or reduces points. Community Service
and alcohol awareness classes are part of rehabilitation
(Adjudication Alternative Program) in the case of the first
time underage drinker. Early intervention and a healthy dose
of pragmatism and compassion is the key.

So what don't we know about the District Judge that we
may not have guessed? He is a great Philadelphia sport fan,
from the collection of memorabilia and Flyers, Eagles and
Phillies photos I observed. The DJ has been refereeing high
school basketball for several years now, even since his sons
have long since graduated. Fishing with his family is another
pastime. Three of his four sons participated in athletics
during high school where they accumulated 21 varsity
letters (Soccer, Wrestling, Track and Volleyball), he told me,
and his other son is a back country skier and rock climber,
where on occasion he will rock climb in bare feet, for fun!
And yes, the judge's wife is a lawyer too.

Finally, I asked, as I do of elected officials, the "What's
next?" question and to the Judge's credit, I got an absolutely
lawyer-like answer. When I posed, "Do you ever think about
running for Common Pleas Judge?" he simply stated that
he was happy where he was and that, for now, he could see
retiring there. Good answer. Glad he's sticking around. 
