xciting health news for Harrisburg
City residents! The U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development
awarded The City of Harrisburg $5.6 million
in grant money for the remediation of lead
paint hazards and the Housing and Urban
Development's Healthy Homes program. These
programs will assist in improving the health,
safety, and welfare of families and their homes
throughout the city over the next 5 years by
remediating lead hazards.
During the grant period, the City of Harrisburg's Department of Building and Housing
Development (DBHD) is expected to provide
lead hazard reduction and healthy home activities
on 480 rental or owner- occupied homes or
apartments within the City proper. To qualify, the
individual or household income must meet the
federal low-to-moderate income requirement and
have children under the age of six. in low-income
areas known as "Opportunity Zones."
"The City is pleased to have received this
important funding," Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse said in a statement. "The grant supports
our continued effort to provide city residents
with safe homes, free from health hazards."

This program applies to qualifying rental
properties and homeowners in the City of
Harrisburg. Qualified homes will receive free
testing, also known as a lead risk assessment.
Additionally, children under the age of six can
be tested for lead at one of the City's partner
health agencies is available for applicants with
children (under six years old) regularly visiting
or living in the home! The program is on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
