ote. has been serving food lovers for a few years, and,
if you've never been there, it could be because it's a bit
under the radar.  Inconspicuously located in midtown
Harrisburg on North 2nd and Harris Streets, it has the
feel of a small European village bistro. The 1910 Victorian home
was re-designed as a succession of eateries that eventually met
their demise. Now, owner and hostess Ruth Prall has ushered in
a restaurant with legs.

Open for dinner daily except Mondays, and featuring a Sunday
brunch, note. serves adventurous foods courtesy of Chef Matthew
Rossi and is also a relaxing site indoors or on the sidewalk for a
glass of wine.  Often hosting diners from the surrounding neighborhood, its artwork features jazz musicians to complement the
classic jazz selections from the turntable.  Selections are seasonal,
and daily specials are offered according to Matt's whim.
If wine isn't your thing, creative cocktails include the Midtown
Mule (ginger and lime with vodka) and the Sicilian (bourbon with
Italian aperitifs and orange bitters).  Sit at the wraparound bar to
enjoy small plate specials, offered with your drink from 4:30-6:30.

Salads include charred endive and frisee with citrus in a mint
vinaigrette, and a generously-sized Waldorf wedge with apple,
celery and roasted walnuts. A spicy peanut soup had confit squash
and braised duck, with a hint of orange oil.  The seafood bisque
special had my favorite treat from the sea, oysters.

SATURDAY

Small plates abound for those who want a small bite with a
drink, or for those who want a little variety during dinner.  A
cheesy rich linguini bowl was fragrant with a truffled egg.  Seared
bay scallops were nicely presented on a bed of whipped cauliflower
with crispy smoked bacon.

JUNE 9
CITY ISLAND/
CAROUSEL PAVILION

Entrees were artistically plated, befitting the surroundings,
and were all enjoyed at our table that included two happy
newlyweds. My monkfish en croute sat with winter citrus and
whipped goat cheese, sprinkled with roe.  The braised short rib
in a port wine sauce came off the bone with a fork.  Cornish
hen with pearl onions and baby carrots was juicy from its wine
braise. Lollipopped lamb was buttery in a mint chimichurri on
chopped kale flavored with lemon and fennel.  A neighboring
diner raved about his oxtail over cavatelli in a black garlic oil.

The three house-made desserts were passed around and polished
off.  A double chocolate pot de crème was topped with a honey/
cinnamon mousse.  A thin charred sugar topping melted into
a creamy creme brulee, and pear biscotti with cinnamon tasted
even better when spread with a dab of chocolate butter.
You might have passed note. plenty of times when leaving the
city. It's well worth the effort to park the car and stop inside.
