dauphincms.org President's Message LIGHT at the end of the TUNNEL Shyam Sabat, M.D. President, DCMS A s we all look forward to progress further into spring, finally we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Gradually things are opening up and we are getting more and more positive news. Most healthcare workers have by now received both their doses of vaccine. After initial hiccups, vaccinations in PA are progressing quite satisfactorily. Our elderly and at-risk populations have also been more or less fully vaccinated. Soon the CDC will be opening up vaccination for teens. We at the Dauphin County Medical Society express our deep gratitude towards all our healthcare workers who have been at the forefront of this fight, risking their lives and living up to the Hippocratic Oath. History is bound to look back on their personal sacrifice and take inspiration for decades to come. Still, we have to be careful and take baby steps towards the opening process. The opening has to be gradual and data driven. We have to learn our lessons from countries like India and Brazil, who are experiencing some deep human catastrophes due to prematurely declaring victory against this cruel pandemic. 6 Spring 2021 Central PA Medicinehttp://www.dauphincms.org
