Natural Design

Retro

Another important market direction is "Naturally Inspired"
designs. Nature's designs can best be described as Wabi-Sabi,
which is the Japanese tradition of looking at the beauty of something through its imperfections. Nature inspired designs in furniture, fabrics and accessories continue to have staying power
with the consumer. Reclaimed, rustic woods with rough, opengrained finishes that are full of character keep things casual and
are found in relaxed traditional to contemporary design styles.
Wood planking with forced splits and natural edge finishes gives
the illusion that the wood came straight from a tree. The natural
design elements also include petrified woods, stone, lava rock and
various shells.

The desire to flashback to mod silhouettes and styles of the
mid-century is still going strong. "It's all groovy again, baby."
And don't forget to throw in a plush faux fur or a shag rug for
added authenticity. Many of the designs harken directly back to
the day and others take their creative liberty with the mid-century
design, but with today's youthful energy.

Woven wood blinds, rattan chair, decorative branches and the natural wood
base on the cocktail table create a welcoming room. Even the shell accessory
evokes nature! Design by Barbara Tabak, Decorating Den Interiors.

Don't let the year tick by without making a new color or design
statement in your home. If you love the idea of infusing your
space with one of the new color palettes, but you're not quite
ready to add it to your walls, there are plenty of ways to add
splashes of color to your home. If you keep your walls neutral
- pale beiges, sands, ivories, grays and whites - you can bring
one of the newest colors in with rugs, furniture, lamps, pillows,
throws and artwork. You may also consider painting your ceiling
or an accent wall. The same advice goes for adding a new décor
trend to your home; if you can't make a total change, start small
and change out one or two of your wooden tables with a metal
or acrylic table, or add some nature-inspired accessories to your
space. Before you know it, your home will look fresh.
