Another thing to consider is the settings you use. The spin speed
in a front load washer can exceed 1200 rpms. If you are washing
a light load and have your washer on a high spin speed, you risk
experiencing vibration and excessive shaking.
Always balance out the load and keep in mind what you have the
washer set on for the spin speed.
Generally, front load laundry will have the best clean, so consider
the degree of soiling in the clothing you are washing. If you will
be washing clothing that gets excessively dirty, a front load is the
best option for the best clean.
When looking at a top-load washer, Townsley advised to consider
whether you want an agitator model vs. a non-agitator variety.
An agitator model generally has a smaller load capacity and is harder
on fabrics than a non-agitator. It also may have fewer features,
but comes with a better clean ability for heavily soiled fabrics.
Non-agitator models come in large capacity, although they are not
meant to be stuffed completely full. They are easier on fabrics and
feature high spin speeds like a front load, which means that your
clothes will need less time in the dryer.

Choosing a Dryer
Your dryer will only work as well as your washer, Townsley said.
So, if you are thinking about replacing just one of the machines,
you'd do well to consider getting a new set, instead. You will save
on installation costs, and also have a better chance at receiving a
rebate. When considering what dryer to buy, keep in the mind the
following tips:
* Dryers come equipped with different cycles and accessories.
* If you do a lot of rack drying, pick a dryer that comes with a
drying rack.
* A dryer with a steam cycle is useful for freshening and de-wrinkling clothing, as well as treating items for which washing in a
washing machine is not recommended.
* Consider whether you need an electric or gas dryer.
* Understand the way your dryer vents, and know where the
ducting is located.

Generally, it's a smart move to buy local and find a company that
has a reputable service department and a certified installation department, Townsley said. Also, be wary of stores that offer "free
install" or "free delivery." Make sure that the price you're quoted
includes the purchase, delivery and installation, and ask for specifics.
Some companies offer basic installation that does not include hoses
or power cords, charging extra to include them. Others will also
charge extra for second floor or basement installations. Be sure to get
all the specifics about what is included in the price you are quoted.
When scheduling installation, remember that most appliance companies work during normal business hours. Set aside a day that you
can be there for the installation.
It's important to remember when purchasing a new washer and
dryer that appliances are not built to last for as long as models
manufactured in the past were. A washer you are looking to replace
may have lasted for 15 years or more, but you should be aware
that your new washer and dryer may not last more than 10 years.
Always research extended warranties to save you from an unexpected service call. You may pay more up front for the product,
but it will save you money in the long run if something would
happen to malfunction.

that come with the machine. Consumers could save themselves
a lot of trouble by eliminating problems in the first place if they
would take the time to read the instructions and information in
the manual.
