Options and Trends for Creating
a Legacy of Charitable Giving
Suzanne joined the Council on Foundations in 2013 and
serves as Senior Legal Counsel and Vice President of Legal
Affairs. Suzanne has extensive experience representing
nonprofit organizations including community foundations,
charitable trusts, private foundations and corporate foundations.
Suzanne earned her bachelor's degree from the University of
Texas at Austin, has a J.D. from Widener University Delaware
Law School, and an L.L.M. in taxation from Georgetown
Law Center. In May of 2015, the American Bar Association
selected Suzanne for its prestigious "Outstanding Nonprofit
Lawyer Award" in recognition of "distinguished service by a
nonprofit - in-house counsel."

n Oct. 11, Suzanne Friday, Senior Counsel and
Vice President of Legal Affairs at the Council on
Foundations, spoke about options and trends in
charitable giving at a reception co-hosted by the Delaware
County Bar Association and The Foundation for Delaware
County.
The complementary program provided an overview of
the legal requirements necessary to establish a charitable
foundation and discussed the differences between private
foundations and public charities such as community
foundations. Friday reviewed the pertinent Federal tax laws
that govern these charitable entities and compared compliance
requirements for both private foundations and public charities.
The program focused on current trends in charitable giving
including donor advised funds, LLCs, and crowdfunding
platforms, and examined how the recent tax reform act may
affect charitable giving.

At a Launch Celebration, less than one year ago, the largest
philanthropy serving Delaware County officially retired its
former name, the Crozer-Keystone Community Foundation;
announced its new one, The Foundation for Delaware County;
and distributed $330,000 in Grants.
