The DCVMA Inaugural Flying
of Veteran Casket Flags
with the DCBA

October 14, 2018. The Delaware County Veterans Memorial
Association (DCVMA) inaugural flying of Veteran Casket
Flags with the Delaware County Bar Association (DCBA)
included legendary names from the legal community who shaped
Delaware County following their heroic efforts in their military
service.
Honored for service to country, family, culture and traditions,
the crowd of family, friends and colleagues was welcomed by
DCVMA President & Army Veteran Guy Fizzano, with the
ceremony lead by Dennis Murphy, Vietnam Army veteran, Silver
Star recipient and DCVMA Co-Vice President. The Casket
Flag Raising portion of the program, under the direction of
Police Chief Joe Day, US Marine & DCVMA Co-Vice President,
was supported by the Smedley D. Butler Marine Detachment
and included Bugler Marty Holahan and a Rifle Salute by the
Vietnam Vets of America. Pastor Jennifer Casey, Holy Trinity
Lutheran Church, Wallingford, delivered the Invocation.

The crowd listened in earnest as the distinguished careers of
those recognized were recounted. Many in Delaware County
and beyond know of the career highlights of these individuals,
but like other soldiers of their generation, they were quiet about
their military service. Four Delaware County Bar Association
member veteran flags, in addition to one flag for the "Unknown
Soldier," were accepted by family members and colleagues.
To pay tribute to great men like John F. Cramp, Esquire,
the Honorable J.V. Diggins, F. Martin Duus, Esquire, and
Michael Sweeney, Esquire, is both an honor and a privilege.
Though from varied backgrounds, they each truly embraced the
notion of service - to community and country. Their lives were
modeled in pursuit of this ideal. You can see it in not only what
they did, but how they did it.
John Cramp: Served his country in the army during World
War II and later in the Pennsylvania National Guard. An
