outstanding legal career that spanned decades. A man who
served more non-profit agencies that I can count. A family
man dedicated to his community.

allow you to attend next year's ceremony, as we are committed
to making this an annual recognition honoring Association
members who have served and who have passed on.

The Honorable J.V. Diggins: Served his country in the
Marines during World War I. A legal career took him from
a practicing lawyer to the Department of Justice to our
esteemed bench where he ascended to President Judge.
A family man dedicated to his community.

Purpose: The Military and Veterans Service Committee of
the Delaware County Bar Association was formed as a vehicle
through which our members who have served our country may
be recognized, both those who have passed, and those who
are still with us. Additionally, it is the further purpose of this
committee to honor all of those who have served our country.

F. Martin Duus: Served his country in the army in World
War II on the front lines in battle in France; he was awarded
the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his exemplary conduct
during combat. He went on to law school and practiced law
in our county, serving also as a solicitor for school districts.
A family man dedicated to his community.
Michael R. Sweeney: Served his country in the Navy
and was a decorated Vietnam War veteran. A practiced
jurist in matrimonial law, he was the "go to" person in
his field, serving as Judge Pro Tem in family law in our
Delaware County Courts. He was recognized as one of the
premiere lawyers in the area. A family man dedicated to his
community.
Those words, "a family man dedicated to his community,"
represent the embodiment of what they lived and breathed
every day of their lives. They stood up for country in their
service as veterans and continued their dedication to the
notion of service in the field of law. To them and to all the
veterans who have served our country, we will be forever
grateful.
Today, to raise a flag in their honor reminds each of us
of what we aspire to be. To be better versions of ourselves.
To serve country. To serve the better good. To be people
like they were.
To them, we wing a prayer upward, asking them to lead
us towards this noble path.
