The ABCs of the Ups and Downs in Everyone's Hometown

center. The 7,000-square-foot CHOP pediatric center opened this
past summer.
'50 at Granite Run', 50 Middletown Road, Media...Combines
traditional design with modern sensibility. The 192-unit, fourstory luxury apartment building takes full advantage of large
indoor and outdoor amenity areas set on the former ChiChi's
restaurant pad fronting Route 352. Slated to open in March,
2019 ... studio, one- and two-bedroom units with bountiful
amenities!
Hampton Inn: Located in beautiful Media, PA , the Hampton
Inn & Suites occupies the property on which the long vacant
Medical Center stood prior to its demolition. The Hampton
has been tastefully designed with all of the modern comforts
that today's traveler expects. This modern hotel with 106 guest
rooms includes a hot breakfast and boasts a fitness center, indoor
pool, meeting space and a shuttle service. The Inn is just minutes
away from Media's cultural attractions, shopping and business
district; and just 15 minutes from Philadelphia International
Airport.
Little Inn/Generations/Maggie Hooks: Once rumored to
serve the public as a car wash, it appears the property will
accommodate a 3-story, 51-room hotel. The footprint of the
proposed hotel is very similar in size to the current restaurant.
The property includes the single-family residence at 719 Summer
Street that will remain a residence. The project also takes the
current 95% of impervious surface and reduces it to 80%,
allowing for the introduction of landscaping space.
Parking Garage, Juror's Lot: The
"walls came tumbling down," August
1, inside the juror parking structure
at the corner of Orange and Second
streets. Specifically, a "cosmetic"
concrete slab about 6 feet tall and
25 feet long at the top of one of the
parking ramps had separated from its
welds. County Council closed the
parking deck out of an abundance of
caution and called upon structural
engineers to determine its overall
integrity. The engineers encountered
several areas of concern in evaluating
the garage which lead to street
closures in the surrounding area. The
parking structure was built in 1970 as
an add-on to the Toal and Sweeney
buildings that were constructed in the
mid-1960s. Demolition is underway
and plans are in the making to rebuild
the parking deck, Toal Building and
Sweeney Building.

Raven Motel: An application before Media borough's Zoning
Hearing Board made a famous Edgar Allen Poe line come to
mind for many people in terms of a somewhat iconic mainstay
of the county seat. Repeated on many stanzas, it begins "Quoth
the Raven..." Zoning has been approved to redevelop the .46acre parcel at 427 E. State Street. A four-story building will be
erected with the ground floor zoned as retail space.
Riddle Ale House: Sold to highest bidder! Now gone
(demolished), but never forgotten ... So we welcome State Street
Sandwiches! After 56 years of owning and operating the Riddle
Ale House on the site of the former Granite Run Mall, The
Pompei Family is proud to bring State Street Sandwiches to the
Heart of Media, PA. Located at 301 West State Street, formerly
Buddy's Burgers, Shakes & Fries, State Street Sandwiches boasts
"fine light fare and the best hand carved roast beef sandwich in
the County!"
Starbucks: On steroids! The new Starbucks on Baltimore Pike
opened at the end of October. Relocating across the street from
its former "strip mall" location, the new super Starbucks rejoins
the 28,218 locations worldwide. The American coffee company
and coffeehouse chain is considered the main representative of
"second wave coffee," initially distinguishing itself from other
coffee-serving venues in the US by taste, quality, and customer
experience.
SEPTA: The Media-West Chester rail line will re-open, as the
new Wawa SEPTA Station is expected to be complete in 2021!
On the very local scene, in approximately 5 years from now, cars
will follow the trolley. A new trolley "set up" funded by Septa
will include additional trolley tracks and 3 to 4 new stops.
Strine Property (former): At 1.76 acres, the lot referred to at
Eighth and Jackson streets in the borough remains one of the
largest in a residential area with development prospects. That
opportunity has now been unanimously approved by council for
seven single-family homes in what is clearly a desirable Media
Borough market.
