The Ethics of Governing
and Managing a Non-Profit
100+... Over 100 DCBA
members attended this
program at no cost.
November, 2019. The Delaware County Bar Association hosted
a CLE program entitled "The Ethics of Governing and Managing
a Non-Profit." The keynote speaker was Laura Otten, Executive
Director of the Non-Profit Center at LaSalle, and the seminar
was sponsored by the George B. Lindsay Foundation and the
Foundation for Delaware County.

Laura demonstrates a life-long commitment to the nonprofit
sector having served on her first nonprofit board while still a
teenager. Her expertise in nonprofit leadership, and midwife to
a host of governance best practices, is underscored by her role
as inaugural director of La Salle University's M.S. in Nonprofit
Leadership.

Laura Otten, Ph.D.: Laura has the longest history with
The Nonprofit Center, serving as a consultant and instructor for
more than 35 years. In that time, she has distinguished herself
on both the national and local levels, as an expert in nonprofit
leadership, governance, strategic planning, evaluation, and other
aspects of organizational management.

While Laura jokes that someone who qualifies for AARP
shouldn't be blogging, her weekly posts on Nonprofit University
Blog are read regularly around the world.

Since 2001, she has led the Center, integrating a commitment
to best practices in all aspects of nonprofit operations, and
solidified our educational model to provide in-depth, high quality
learning experiences that make The Nonprofit Center unique
among any other organizations in the region.

"We should make use of our security, our seniority, to take
risks, to make noise, to be courageous, to become unpopular."

generosity in and for the people of our county, improving the
wellbeing of our residents, and energizing participation and

The foundation fulfills their mission and creates opportunities
for Delaware County residents through investing and managing
charitable funds; helping donors create their legacy by bringing
their philanthropic vision to life; strengthening nonprofits
through charitable grants, training and other resources; and
providing leadership and insight on important issues in our
