Cheers to Chad!
C

had the Pit Bull has
brought such an
amazing light to our
local community. Having been
rescued as a puppy from the
streets of Chester, to bringing
hope and happiness to people
everywhere, his continued
work in the last 5+ years
serving as a therapy dog has
made him stand out as a local
shining star!

Proceeds of $1,000+ benefitted our Veterans of VFW Post
#3460, Media. In addition, donations of dog and cat food and
accessories benefitted homeless animals locally and one special
angel, "Halo," the unofficial "K9" for Upland Police.

Chad has been recognized
with a number of awards in
the past and most recently,
he has made his first appearance in a book appropriately titled,
PIT BULL HEROES by the amazing Greg Murray. Pictured:
Chrissy Dampman, Owner, Chad; with WWII Veteran Ed Hess,
at 100 years, lauded for his military service, continued support of
veterans' causes, and a century of unwavering patriotism!
September, 2019. The
local VFW Post #3460,
Media, opened up their doors
in celebration of Chad's 7th
birthday, a "pawsitively"
fabulous affair! The event
was opened to the public to
celebrate this amazing brindle
pit bull who brings smiles
to the kids, happiness to our
seniors, love to the homeless,
a purpose to so many who
have lost their way, stories
to our veterans and a special
heart to his family.
A special thank you to
a few of Delco's finest for
your support ... Attorneys
Kathleen A. Piperno; Hon.
Wendy B. Roberts; Andrew
J. Edelberg; and Eugene A.
Bonner.
Not pictured: We
thank you for your words
and support Mayor Bob
McMahon, Media; Daniel
Achuff, Brandywine Valley
SPCA; and Bill Dennon,
Mayor, Upland Borough.

UPLAND - Man's best friend turned Upland Borough's best
friend.
Spreading the love to its police officers and borough
residents ... Halo is not an official K9 unit with the department
and does not have an officer designated as her handler. She
stays at the police department 24 hours a day, seven days a
week, with officers taking care of her walks, feedings, play
times and handling at community events. On her adventures in
the community, Halo has developed her strongest bonds with
children and has been an allure for positive interactions with the
police officers.
The department was budgeted to get a narcotics K9 unit in
2019, but that has been shifted to 2020, according to Police Chief
Michael Irey. When dog adoption came up as an option; Lt.
Curran found this angel through the Aston-based Rags 2 Riches
Animal Rescue.
Because care of Halo has not been budgeted in the
department, officers contribute to her care with the support of
donations from the community. The department's choosing to
adopt a pit bull sends a positive signal that bucks the stigma of
the breed being aggressive and violent.
Chief Irey and Lt. Curran have been happy to have Halo ...
"She's a huge asset to the police department and the borough
itself. With the publicity that she has received, we are trying to
use that to get other departments to adopt dogs that are up for
euthanasia." *
