Paws For The Cause

Reuniting furry companions with their families is the ultimate
goal of the Safe Haven program, and thanks to the Red Rover
Foundation, this partnership has been able to thrive and create
more and more successful stories.
Interested in learning more or supporting the Safe Haven
program? Contact the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware
County at DAPDC.org or Providence Animal Center at
ProvidenceAC.org.
The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County, Inc.
provides free legal, counseling, safe house and crisis hotline
support and services to victims of domestic abuse in Delaware
County. The crisis-hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days at a
week: 610-565-4590.

alliance made all of the difference.

The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County (DAP) is
excited to announce their continued partnership with Providence
Animal Center made possible through a grant awarded by
the Red Rover Foundation, an organization that provides
emergency shelter to animals when there is a crisis. Since the
program's beginning in June 2015, Providence Animal Center
has provided housing to twenty-six pets. Thanks to
this additional funding from Red Rover they can
continue to provide shelter to the pets of victims of
domestic abuse.
The number of animals affected by domestic
abuse is shocking. Many pet-owning victims report
that their abusive partner used a pet to exert control
over them through threats, harm or even death to
the family pet. In many circumstances, victims
will return to their abuser out of fear for their pet.
Luckily, due to the dedicated relationship that DAP
maintains with the Providence Animal Center,
victims' pets have the option of safe housing until
they are able to reunite with their families.
This alliance will allow domestic violence
victims staying in DAP's shelter the peace of mind that their
pets are safe from harm. Cats and dogs that are pets of victims
are provided safe haven through Providence Animal Center for
up to forty-five days, and in some cases PAC is able to offer
an extension. As a result of the compassion and commitment
of DAP and Providence Animal Center, many victims of
domestic abuse are able to seek safety with the goal of
reuniting with their beloved pet.
