Magisterial District Judges' Dinner

T

he Honorable Francis J. Catania Memorial Magisterial
District Judges' Dinner, sponsored by the Delaware
County Bar Foundation, was held in April 2017 at The
Concordville Inn, Glen Mills, PA. The ceremonial dinner serves
as an opportunity for the minor judiciary to celebrate and
recognize members who have made significant contributions
to the justice system. A number of awards are presented to
individuals who have performed distinguished services to the
courts.
Master of Ceremonies: Donald J. Weiss, Esquire, President of
the Delaware County Bar Foundation
Invocation: The Honorable Spencer B. Seaton, Jr.
Pledge of Allegiance: The Honorable Wilden Horace Davis
Musical Selections: the Artisans of Williamson College of the
Trades
The Honorable Francis J. Catania was appointed to the
Delaware County Bench in 1963 and went on to serve as
a distinguished juror for the next 27 years. For 14 of those
years, he presided as President Judge of the Court of Common
Pleas. Judge Catania is remembered for his commitment to the
Delaware County Bench and Bar, his dedication to the ideals of
the legal profession, and his tireless work to support the local
justice system. Named in his honor, the Honorable Francis J.
Catania Memorial Award is presented to an individual who
embodies the ideals of Judge Catania and has made significant
contributions to the administration of justice in Delaware County.
The first Honorable Francis J. Catania Memorial Award
Recipient: William G. Halligan, Esquire, who has provided
dedicated service for many years as solicitor for the Magisterial
District Judges. Mr. Halligan was also granted honorary
membership for life in the Magisterial District Judges'
Association.

recipient of the Honorable Francis J. Catania Memorial
Award and thank Judge Kenney for his service to the Bench
and Bar.
Presented by: The Honorable David R. Griffin
President Judge Chad F. Kenney was initially appointed to the
Court and was sworn in on August 22, 2003. He was elected to
a full ten-year term in November 2003. In June 2012, he was
elected by his colleagues to the position of President Judge.
Prior to his appointment, Judge Kenney was twice elected
Sheriff of Delaware County, serving in that position from 1998
until taking a seat on the Bench in 2003. He is a graduate of
Monsignor Bonner High School, Villanova University and
Temple Law School where he served on the Law Review.
"Judge Kenney's service and significant contributions
to the administration of justice in Delaware County
are immeasurable. He truly is a teacher and mentor
extraordinaire. I can personally attest to his mentoring and
guiding me through my early years. If not for his guidance, I
would probably not be standing here today." - The Honorable
