as an editor on the International Law Series. In October of
2013, he graduated from The Basic School and then reported
to Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island. While
at Naval Justice School, he was promoted to Captain. In
December 2013, Captain Massey completed the course and
became certified in accordance with the requirements of
Article 27(b) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. he
reported to the Legal Services Support Team at Marine Corps
Recruit Depot, Parris Island. During 2014 and the beginning
of 2015, Captain Massey successfully completed a billet as
a Trial Counsel and was hand-selected by the Navy's Judge
Advocate General to become a Victims' Legal Counsel.
During the spring of 2015, he served the billet of Legal
Assistance Officer until he transitioned into the Victims' Legal
Counsel position. As a Victims' Legal Counsel, he represented
nearly 120 clients with victims ranging from domestic
violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, to hazing, reprisal
and maltreatment. Captain Massey was the sole Victims' Legal
Counsel on Parris Island, with an area of operation ranging
from all of South Carolina, south to include Florida, and west
to include Louisiana.
