Law Day meets the Mummers
in Media

MEDIA COURTHOUSE - Mummers
and lawyers might not seem to have much
in common, but on Friday, May 3, 2019,
they did as the Delaware County Bar
Association celebrated the 61st Annual
Law Day.
Among the honorees was longtime
WPHL-17 news reporter and Mummers
announcer Steve Highsmith, as well as
James May, the creator of the Avalon
String Band headgear that Jason Kelce
made famous during the Eagles 2018
Super Bowl celebration.
Law Day was created by President
Dwight D. Eisenhower as a May 1 event
to show the great thing about America is
that we are ruled by law, as opposed to the
former Soviet Union's May Day parades
that are weapons of war.
The day began with a parade along
State Street to the Delaware County
Courthouse. Organizer attorney Eugene
Bonner said the parade had been a
longstanding tradition commemorating a
special day and he was happy it had been
revived. At the courthouse the Mummers
and the Chester Drumline entertained
before the celebration moved inside.
