numerous other awards and recognitions
by magazines and newspapers. In an area
of the law that required the representation
of some of the more unsavory members
of society, John's reputation for being
trustworthy and a man of his word was at
the top of his profession. John's word was
his bond, and everyone knew it.
John was never just your average
criminal lawyer. He counseled his clients
on life, and he didn't just charge a fee
for the sake of making money. John's
clients always came back to him if they
needed help again and would always refer
him to any family or friends who got in
trouble. Many of them considered him
like family to them and would visit him
on holidays with gifts and cards. He often
refused cases in which he knew that his
representation couldn't help the client.
John's reputation among police officers
was second to none. Although he always
treated them with respect, he was known
as a fierce opponent in the courtroom. In
an ultimate show of respect, many police
officers who found themselves on the
wrong side of the law would call John
List to be the attorney to represent them.
At the time of John's funeral mass,
his son Matt delivered his Eulogy. He

described how when he was younger his
dad told him "Son, its time to put you on
the John J. List program." This Program
contained 7 Commandments, which I'd
like to share with you today:
1) Family comes first, no matter what.
2) Take Care of your mother.
3) Never hold a grudge, it's not worth
your time.
4) You have nothing to prove to
anyone but yourself.
5) You don't have to be the funniest
guy in the room, just be yourself and
good things will happen. Popularity is
fleeting, but respect is forever.
6) Hard work is the prescription to
self-fulfillment.
7) Most importantly, Cheesesteaks
make you fat.
April 10, 2019 marked one year since
we lost John. Many of his friends, coworkers and family are still in shock and
grief over his passing. Godspeed to an
original Delco legend and a genuine great

man. A great lawyer and an even better
man, husband and father. John was our
friend, and we will dearly miss him.
AND NOW, this Memorial Committee
moves that this resolution be adopted by
the Delaware County Bar Association,
made part of its minutes and presented to
the Court with copies being given to his
wife and children. *
