Media Walk of Fame:
A Piece of History in
Your Backyard!
"couple of friends" turned out to be over 500 motorcyclists from
the Warrior Watch Riders, several fire trucks, police cruisers,
civilians, etc.! Some bikers climbed onto each bus to shake our
hands and to thank us for our service. Genuine nice guys and
gals!
Here comes the good part; the Warrior Watch Riders closed
I - 95 as we pulled out of the rest stop and became our escorts.
They closed all entrances onto I - 95 and did the same for us
as we traveled north on the Blue Route to Exit 5, Springfield.
Every overpass had fire trucks and police cars with their
personnel saluting us! Travelers headed south on the Blue Route
stopped, got out of their cars and saluted us.
We then pulled into the Lamb Tavern where at least a
thousand Springfield residents, and others, lined a red carpet to
welcome us home and to thank us for our service - men, women
and children! We were treated to a steak and crab cake dinner,
courtesy of the owners of the Lamb Tavern while the staff
donated their time serving us - gratis!
At the end of the evening, we received a personalized mug, a
copy of the picture of our group taken at the Vietnam Memorial,
a gift box of 17 donated items for us and another envelope with
letters and cards from school children and Soldiers Angels.
I have personally committed myself to sending a letter to
all those who have provided their address, thanking them for
allowing me and my fellow veterans with the welcome home
that we Vietnam Vets waited for, for over 50 years.
I trust you will allow me the liberty of thanking Honor
Flight Philadelphia, especially its founders Andrew and Angela
Schiavello, for a day that I will never forget and a shout out to
my son for showing the thoughtfulness and love to provide his
old man with a day where I closed I - 95 and the Blue Route!
P.S. Thank you to ... the owners of the Lamb Tavern
www.theporchatthelamb.com, John Whalen, Pete Crisanti,
and Steve Graham; and to Bill Kraus and Steve Newton,
owners, Mission BBQ in King of Prussia, PA www.missionbbq.com. Check out Honor Flight Philadelphia at www.

C
reated in 1995, the Walk of Fame is dedicated
to individuals who have made outstanding
contributions to the quality of life in Media. Each
individual recognized on the Walk of Fame comes from
very different and diverse backgrounds.
A plaque is dedicated to each of the Walk of Fame
individuals stating their name, their years of life and a very
short statement about who they were. Most of them having
been residents, it is a mixture of government leaders,
people who have led committees, humanitarians, artists,
volunteers and many more.
The first inductee to the Walk of Fame was Crosby
Smith, former Mayor and Tax Collector in Media. Another
notable inductee is Nan Dutton who was the first citizen
of Media whose plaque was installed in 2017. Nan
passed away in 1951, but is remembered as an excellent
representative of the community of Media whilst being a
Newspaper correspondent for the Daily Times for close to
60 years.
Residents are encouraged to recommend individuals
with a very strong connection to the Borough for the
Walk of Fame. The current committee, comprised of Jane
Rowland, Joan Hagan, Gale Whitaker, Frank Daly, and
Paul Patchel, considers all recommendations received.
A ceremony is held in the early fall in celebration of
those honored, their selection for the Walk of Fame, and
their contributions to the quality of life in the Borough. A
short reception follows the ceremony at Borough Hall.
Next time you are walking to the Borough Hall, look
down! Take time to appreciate the spirited individuals
who have had great impact on "Everybody's Hometown"
Media! *
