Let Us Strive... and Strut!

"How Are You" James May?
When the Mummers stepped off on New Year's Day, 2019,
longtime Delco designer/costumer James May still had a presence
in the giant parade, even though he "officially" retired 3+ years
ago after more than four decades designing dazzling costumes for
many string bands.
May created the captain's costume for the Avalon String Band
and there is a story behind it, if you have not heard, May did this
costume pro-bono in exchange for Avalon giving him one of the
authentic costumes and hat Jason Kelce wore last year, referring
to the now famous Mummers outfit donned by the Eagles center
for the Eagles Super Bowl LII Parade. The hat is now famously
referred to as the Super Bowl Championship hat.
Since that memorable parade last winter, May has put replicas
of the famous hat to good use, creating them and donating many
for charitable causes such as the Mummers With Cancer Fund, the
Shriners Hospital for Children, the American Heart Association.
At the Delaware County Press Club's Holiday luncheon in
December, May donated a Championship Hat for the auction held
to benefit the club's revolving scholarship fund.

In the wake of the 2018 Eagles Super Bowl victory May also
created a 7-foot tall canine wearing a gold crown with green
jewels and anointed the creature as King of the Underdogs, in
recognition of the term "underdogs" often used by television
sports commentators in describing the Eagles - pre-Super Bowl
2018!
The "CID" Police Dog Mascot of the Office of the Delaware
County District Attorney ...
The life-like German Shepherd
costume was uniquely designed and donated by long-time
Delaware County resident and renowned costume designer,
James May of Ridley Township. May received a resolution from
Delaware County Council and was recognized by then District
Attorney, Jack Whelan, for his contribution to public safety
for Delaware County residents and commitment to fight crime
through educational awareness. With the purpose to engage
young residents in a fun and interactive way, CID, the German
Shepherd mascot, goes out into the community with an anti-crime
message. The mascot addresses public safety issues for children
such as Internet safety, the dangers of online predators, and
illegal drugs. Another goal of using the mascot is to build on the
relationship between police and the community *
