CELEBRATING PREVENTION ... The Delaware County
Heroin Task Force is looking forward to joining the recovery
community for the 5th Annual Community Day, Celebrating
Prevention on Saturday, April 20, 2019, held by the Partners for
Success Coalition, Holcomb Behavior Health and the Delaware
County Office of Behavioral Health, Division of Drug and Alcohol.
Community Day will take place from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, rain
or shine, in Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Road in Media.
Each year the event has been held to raise awareness about
drug abuse and addiction in a family friendly setting with activities
that celebrate prevention and recovery. In addition to free food,
live music and fun activities, including an Easter Egg Hunt, there
will be various participating drug prevention and rehabilitation
organizations onsite who will provide resources and services for
parents and youth. During the event, the District Attorney's Mobile
Drug Collection Unit will be on site for residents to dispose of their
expired and unwanted medications. Part of the event's program
includes a ceremony to recognize individuals, organizations and
businesses as Prevention Partners whose leadership positively
impacts the community in preventing, educating, and providing
resources on the issues of prescription drug misuse and opioid use.

Neumann University is an institution that not only provides
excellence in education but serves our community through its
Franciscan tradition which emphasizes social responsibility.
Delaware County Council, joined by members of the Delaware
County Court of Common Pleas and the Delaware County
Criminal Justice Advisory Board, recognized Neumann University
during the Jan. 23 public council meeting.
A resolution was presented to Neumann University President
Dr. Chris Everett Domes and Neumann University General
Counsel Danielle McNichol for the University's role in hosting an
annual summit focused on the opioid epidemic and mental health
issues. In an effort to address this epidemic, the Delaware County
Court of Common Pleas and the Delaware County Criminal Justice
Advisory Board held an annual summit, titled "Building Bridges...
Creating Hope: A Cross Systems Approach," on October 5, 2018,
at Neumann University.
The morning's Keynote Speaker, David Schiller, provided
perspective based on his 30 years of service with the DEA. The
afternoon's Keynote Speaker, Edna McCutcheon, who is the Chief
Executive Officer of Norristown State Hospital, provided insight on
the connection between drug abuse and mental health. The summit
also featured a broad range of panelists who discussed various
aspects of addiction, recovery, and mental illness. *

The Inns of Court
CLE program
January, 2019. The Inns of
Court CLE program explored
the "Changing Limitations on
Civil Actions for Child Sexual
Abuse." Civil actions arising
from the sexual abuse of a minor
are particularly challenging in
Pennsylvania, where statutes of
limitations have been strictly
adhered to. Many plaintiffs do not
or cannot recognize their injury
until long after the statute of
limitations has run out. Existing
case law, proposed legislation and
the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
Independence Reconciliation and Reparations Program were
considered and discussed.
