Kutztown:

WELCOME TO THE TEN THOUSAND
FLOWERS PROJECT kick-off
By Sandy Green, community liaison, Kutztown Community Partnership

The next time you are in Kutztown, stop by Betty's
for a great wrap and to check out the new mural,
which is part of the Ten Thousand Flowers Project.
The Mission: The Ten Thousand Flowers Project is headed by
lifelong artist Tim Gibson. Gibson's vision is to bring communities
together to create one giant mural stretching over a mile long,
filled with 10,000 colorful flowers. To make it even more unique,
this massive mural will be split into hundreds of interconnecting
parts like a giant jigsaw puzzle and created in more than 100
communities across the United States. And the best part, each
mural will be painted by dozens of local volunteers from each
of those communities.
Lead artist Gibson found Betty's Restaurant to be the ideal
spot for the project. He sketches in each unique mural and then
guides the team of volunteers to fill in the colors. Finally, Gibson
follows behind, outlining the flowers, filling in special details and
touching up where needed. Result? A beautiful, bold and colorful
work of art created for the community, by the community."

Anne Timpe, director of the newly formed kTown Hall, said
the idea was inspired by the needs of their family's growing
software company, webCemeteries.
"With members of our team working remotely, we saw the
need for today's professionals and small businesses to have access
to a workspace and a community that can foster growth and
collaboration," she said.

kTOWN HALL: A BETTER PLACE
TO WORK

Nick Timpe, president and CEO of webCemeteries, said
that he plans to move his company into kTown Hall as one of
its first members.

Now Open: kTOWN HALL, a
shared workspace where individuals
who work independently can access
the amenities and networking benefits
of a professional office.

The first floor coworking space will consist of open concept
workstations, a kitchen, reserved desks, a conference room, and
private booths for phone calls. Individuals and companies will
be able to purchase varying levels of memberships to the space.

Entrepreneurs Anne and Nick Timpe
purchased what was known as the Old
Town Hall Building at public auction.
The 104-year-old, two-story building,
located two blocks of Main Street,
served the Kutztown Fire Company
until 1950. It also served the Kutztown
Borough as a town hall until 1959, and
was later homes of the Kutztown Public
Library and the YMCA and Berkleigh
Computers.

28 COMMERCE QUARTERLY FALL 2019

kTown Hall plans to offer networking events and educational
courses from local experts on a range of topics relevant to small
businesses.
"Ultimately, our long-term vision is expanding the coworking
space into a business incubator," Anne said. "We love the idea
of tapping into the wealth of knowledge and experience that
our local businesses have and directing it toward teaching new
entrepreneurs how to run successful companies. A coworking space
naturally provides a foundation for attracting and connecting that
kind of talent and people who are invested in their community."
