HOUSE OF PORTALATIN

Sales, product and hair growth

Growing up in a house with a father who was from a small village
in Puerto Rico, Booker learned early on that things coming from
nature should be respected and nothing should go to waste. Even
things like the skin of a pineapple, which Booker says contains a lot
of vitamins, were utilized. This way of life sparked Booker's interest
in studying aromatherapy and shaped her approach to making her
products, as they are made only from things found in nature.
Like most small businesses, House of Portalatin was not deemed an
essential business at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. But
the shutdown was not all negative for Booker. It afforded her more
time to work on developing a new website as well as new products.
Most recently, Booker has been working with a pastor from
Harrisburg on oils to be used for ordination ceremonies.
"She had been using my oils for the installation of pastors and
she called me and said, 'That oil is a blessing!'" Booker said. "She
said, 'Carmen, as soon as I touched them, they all fell in the spirit
and we want more.'"
This same pastor who used her products to anoint new pastors
applied the oil to her husband's head while he was
going through chemotherapy and reported that
his hair started to regrow. While Booker makes no
official guarantees that her oils will regenerate hair
growth, she has heard from numerous customers
that the oils have helped fill in the bald spots in
their beards.

When Carmen Booker, owner of House of
Portalatin (pronounced por-tah-la-TEEN), talks
about her products she oozes with the love and
excitement she puts into them.
"I only go into my workspace if I'm feeling my
best when my heart is lifted, and I feel good. I
will not put my hands on making product if I'm
not feeling good. I have to be feeling very happy,"
she said. "I wait until I'm in a very good place ...
It's very joyous."
Booker, who is a certified aromatherapist and master blender,
specializes in high-end grooming products for men with a focus on
luxurious beard oils, pre-shave oils and balms.

The shutdown also gave Booker the time to begin
work on a line of shampoos and conditioners, which
she says can be used by men and women.
When she was able to reopen and begin fulfilling
orders, Booker said House of Portalatin experienced
a slow incline and then a nice uptick in sales.
As sales continue to grow, Booker says her approach
to the creation of her products will not change.
"People always say to me 'I can feel the love you
put into every detail,'" Booker said.
