18th Ward Updates

The future is bright

I

t has been another busy season for businesses in the 18th Ward.
From tours with city officials to new business openings to efforts
to ensure that every resident is counted, businesses are pulling
together to do their part to continue improving the neighborhood.

City Official Tour
The 18th WONDER Improvement Association unveiled its latest
plans for the 18th Ward with a tour for city officials. Planners from
Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers, Inc. highlighted proposed
road improvements, bike lanes and pedestrian walkways. Reading
Mayor Eddie Moran, the Managing Director, two members of City
Council and other city officials met with 18th WONDER board
members to visit specific intersections highlighted in the plan. While
funding is still being finalized, everyone was excited to see a glimpse
of the 18th Ward's future.

Grand Opening
One Dollar Wise is the latest business to open in the new shopping
center at 733 Lancaster Ave. The owners welcomed their first customers
with a grand opening celebration on Sept. 5. With an impressive variety
of low-priced food and household staples, customers were amazed to
see how far a dollar can stretch at One Dollar Wise. Visit the 18th

Everybody Counts in the 18th Ward
Federal and state grant money to improve roads and to make other
18th Ward improvements is allocated, in part, based on U.S. Census
population data. To ensure that the 18th Ward gets its fair share,
18th Ward businesses worked with city and Census Bureau officials
to get everyone counted.
On Sept. 8, the 18th Ward Business Alliance hosted a pop-up
Census event in the Queen City Family Restaurant parking lot.
City residents that had not yet completed their Census forms could
complete them onsite. The Census Bureau even provided giveaways
