Think of how this is changing how so many people
work. Contractors and tradesmen are speeding up billing as
materials used and labor for jobs is captured as it occurs in
the field instead of having to turn paperwork into the office
to be billed later by a second person. Billing is done sooner
so they get their money faster. Billing accuracy is improved
because techs are much less likely to forget materials used
and labor if they capture the data immediately. In addition,
if we stop having techs submit paperwork into the office for
billing purposes, you eliminate mistakes made by the input
person because he or she can't read the technician's writing.
Inventory accuracy is improving because each truck is
managed as an inventory location. Users can view exactly
the number and the value of each item on each truck, or
view reports and screens that show inventory value as well
as inventory received at each truck and issued from each
truck. This technology also reduces, and in some cases
eliminates, inventory shrinkage because there is an audit trial
of inventory usage.

Companies can automate the process as much as they
like. For example, if a business doesn't want technicians
submitting invoices, software can be configured so that techs
capture labor and materials but someone else double checks
the charges, approves them, and submits invoices. Sales
organizations can realize similar benefits. With sales reps
entering quotes and orders directly into the software system
from the field, order fulfillment is faster, more accurate, and
less labor intensive.
Mobile accessibility is not the next generation of business
software. Everything I've described is already being done.
Companies that don't embrace this concept will be at a
decided competitive disadvantage for several reasons. As I've
described, not only is workflow much more efficient when
using mobile accessibility, but it's also utilizing the tools
that younger workers embrace. It's estimated that by 2020
the majority of the workforce will be millennials. Every
company wants the best employees, and younger workers
are more likely to be attracted to companies they believe
are committed to state-of-the-art technology as opposed to
companies they view as outdated.
