Q: What is the difference between your orientation and onboarding/
training program?
A: "A new employee's onboarding starts prior to their first day. We
transition their candidate experience to employee experience and keep
in constant communication with the new employee regarding first
day expectations and what their training will be like. An employee's
first day is orientation, and is a true introduction to the departments
and people who lead them. Each conversation the department lead
has with the new employee is tailored to how their department will
interface with the new employee based on their role and how they
can successfully work together. The new employee also has lunch
with someone from the Leadership Team and finishes their day
with a tour of our Regional Training and Logistics Center. After
the employee's first day, their onboarding continues with a training
program that includes Key Person Interviews, an overview of our
foundations (things you wish you knew your first day) and weekly
feedback - a feedback session every Friday with their direct manager
on their training."
Q: What was the biggest challenge in creating your onboarding/
training program?
A: "Internal scheduling challenges always happen when trying to
coordinate orientation, however, since we have implemented this 2
year ago, most people who know they are involved keep Mondays
open for that reason. Also, keeping the orientation and onboarding
consistent through all hires, no matter which department."

Q: What is the difference between your orientation and onboarding/

A: "Our BestSTART (New Employee Orientation program) takes
place during several sessions. During each associate's first week, we
have 4 half day sessions during the first week. The onboarding/
training process in the associate's department has new associates
paired with more experienced associates for the first few weeks.
During their 1st week, everyone gets orientation & a tour, benefits
info, policies, logistics, quality, and safety. At the end of month one,
they have another day of orientation and a luncheon with leadership,
and they get a better look at products and how their job fits into
the 'Big Picture'."
