Downtown Reading:

Downtown Reading
is Alive this Summer
By Carl Brown, Reading Downtown Improvement District Authority

The Downtown Alive free outdoor concert series kicks
off on Wednesday, May 29 with fan favorite Go Go
Gadjet and DJ duo Black. Go Go Gadjet opened last
year's concert series and received such an enthusiastic
response that they are being tapped again for this year's
opener. It just so happens that the band has close ties
with Black Caviar, a DJ duo which was involved with
the award-winning soundtrack for the latest "Spiderman"
movie - Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Both bands have local roots with international recognition, and
we are excited to welcome them home.
Concerts will be held throughout the summer and include:
* June 19: A Flock of Seagulls plus SlothLoveChunk
* July 17: Local H plus Anthrophobia
* August 14: The Revolution (Prince's former band)
* September 18: Save the Date!
Each concert will have a festival atmosphere on the 500 block
of Penn Street and will include food trucks and beer and wine for
sale. A "kids play zone" will also be set up and feature a variety of
activities for children.
Berks County Community Foundation, which has been financially
supporting the concert series since its inception in 2015, is providing
major financial support from its Hawley and Myrtle Quier Fund.
Berks County Convention Center Authority is another major sponsor.
Additional sponsorships are available by contacting the Improvement
District office at 610-376-6424.
More information on the concert series can be found at www.

Other Downtown Reading Summer Events
The Downtown Improvement District is also putting the finishing
touches on its ever-popular MidDay Café series. The series will be
held from the beginning of June until early September; the Cafés
feature live musical performances and other entertainment over the
lunch hour at several locations in downtown Reading. A variety of
food vendors will once again be part of the mix.
The series will kick off as usual with the return of the World War II
military motorcade in the 500 block of Penn Street on June 7 around
noon. The motorcade is tied to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum's 29th
annual World War II Weekend on June 7, 8, and 9 at Reading Airport
in Bern Township. As part of the Café festivities, a live performance
will be presented by the famed Ringgold Band, which will belt out
big band and patriotic tunes.
The Penn Street Market 2019 season will celebrate opening day
on Thursday, June 6 from 10 AM to 2 PM.
The First Friday Downtown Reading Beer Gardens return this
summer on Friday, June 7 in the heart of downtown Reading at 5th
and Penn Streets. The events feature live art, regional musicians, and
gourmet food trucks. The events are hosted by Pollen Consolidated
in conjunction with the Reading Downtown Improvement District.
