eager for good information that impacts their success.

Make sure you are up-to-date on all pending legislation and
candidate issue positions that could have an effect on your company's
bottom line. While it sounds like an extremely time-consuming
task, GRCA employs someone whose job it is to keep you informed
on such matters. Katie Hetherington Cunfer, GRCA's Director of
Community and Government Relations, works tirelessly with local,
county, state and federal officials to keep track of legislative and
electoral activities that affect our business community.
To help you communicate with your elected officials, GRCA
also creates easy to use advocacy letters on important issues, like
limited liability protection from COVID-19 lawsuits, which are
automatically sent to your legislators. You can also work with Cunfer
on individual issues where she can act as a liaison to elected officials,
coach you on how to approach the legislator conversation, and
conduct follow-up leg work on your behalf. As a former legislator,
please know that legislators do not fully understand every issue or
its impact on job creation. They need your input on issues, and
then they decide how to vote on it. In short, you are the business
community's best advocate.

Ask your customers to advocate
Similarly, to your employees, your customers can become great
advocates for your business. Use all available touchpoints to
communicate issues that are important to you and your business.
Make your customers aware of issue areas that are of importance to
your business, both positive and negative. In many cases, they can
help highlight those issues and amplify your message. We would
encourage you to share your involvement in GRCA with them, and
that may lead your customers to learn more about our organization
and get involved with us. A rising tide floats more boats and if we are
all engaged in advocacy on issues important to business, it increases
the strength of our voice. Encourage your peers to speak up!
We're all busy people, and the current COVID-19 crisis and
overall economic situation have exacerbated stress levels a million
times over. However, if the business community's voice is not raised
in the legislative and electoral processes, other anti-jobs voices will
be heard instead. Remember, every good elected official wants to
hear from constituents and try to address their needs. So, you have
to tell YOUR STORY and GRCA arms you with the tools to do it.
