Our Town Foundation welcomes
new businesses to Hamburg
By Deena Kershner, Executive Director, Our Town Foundation

G

reat things are happening in downtown Hamburg! Over the
past few months several new businesses opened their doors
and others expanded into new locations. This is a trend
that the Our Town Foundation, Hamburg's non-profit community
revitalization organization, hopes to see continue.

The Art Suite at Blue Mountain
Visitors coming to the Hamburg area have a new place to stay.
The Art Suite at Blue Mountain recently opened at 15 Rocktown
Road in Hamburg. This quiet, rural property, owned by Jay and
Martha Ressler, is located at the foot of the Blue Mountains and is
only 3.5 miles from Downtown Historic Hamburg and 7 miles from
Hawk Mountain. The house is surrounded by mountains, yet close
to shopping, dining and lots of outdoor recreational opportunities.
The private suite (living room, bedroom and bathroom) is adjacent
to an artist studio, and chock full of original art.

Lucky Leprechaun Vineyard and Winery
While it was sad to hear that Kurtz Florist
would be closing its doors after decades of
being in business, it was exciting to hear
that a new winery would be opening in the
previous flower shop location at 412 State St.
in downtown Hamburg. Owners Than Wright and Teresa McCarthyWright opened The Lucky Leprechaun Vineyard and Winery this
past November and are pleased to offer tastings before purchasing.
With an Irish and Celtic touch, every day is a celebration like St.
Patrick's Day at the winery. Lucky Leprechaun's current hours are
Friday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday noon to 5 p.m., with expanded
hours on the horizon.

This is the second winery that opened in Hamburg's business
district within a two-year period. Bouchette Vineyards opened their
doors in December of 2017.
M & R Hardware and Tool
Downtown Hamburg has
been without a hardware store
since 1995 when the former
Moyer's Hardware store closed
after being in existence since
1870. Fortunately, that has changed with the opening of M & R
Hardware and Tool at 13 South 4th St. Owners Rick Rothermel
and Maria Hernandez have filled a formerly vacant storefront
with everyday hardware needs as well as larger tools for the more
experienced handyman. In addition to owning the hardware store,
Rick has been in the automotive industry for 30 years and has also
operated a notary business for that length of time. Stop by their
physical location or visit their on-line store at mandrhardware.com.
Heather's WhatNots
"It has been a dream of mine
for 20 years to open a small
shop that features handmade
items from locals," said Heather
Reppert, owner of Hamburg's
newest business Heather's WhatNots.
This new boutique opened in November and offers handmade
items including home décor, jewelry, pottery, painted furniture,
kitchen items, bath and body products, and specialty paints.
The shop is located at 342 State St. in Downtown Hamburg,
which formerly housed the Lazy Dog Vintage Market. After just
one year in business, Lazy Dog expanded to a much larger location
directly across the street to allow for additional consignment vendors.
The Art & Craft Gallery of Hamburg also made a move in 2019,
and their new showroom features beautiful work from 40 artists,
all for sale at affordable prices.
Experience everything Downtown Hamburg has to offer.
