2020 Greater Berks Development Fund Board

Happy New Year! And, welcome
to the first edition of Commerce
Quarterly of a new decade. If you've
already broken your New Year's
resolutions, no worries, you are
better than me, since I didn't even
get around to making any.
I have dubbed this issue "Our
2020 Vision," not only because
I am looking to the future, but
because the Greater Reading
Chamber Alliance's vision remains
the same: Berks County is a vibrant
community in which to live, work
and raise a family, and GRCA is
committed to nurturing it. While
none of us at GRCA claim to possess
perfect vision into the future, this
organization does have ideas about
what it wants 2020 to look like for its members, their businesses
and the Greater Reading community.
GRCA COO & EVP Pamela Shupp shares a few of her insights
for the New Year. The one that I find the most exciting? Greater
Reading is primed for business attraction because it is packed with
shovel-ready sites. This area is sure to be the top choice for businesses
looking for a great East Coast location and for local businesses who
are ready to expand their operations. Now, if only I had a crystal
ball to tell me which businesses, that would be even more exciting.
Shupp also re-introduces the lesser-known member benefit of
Certificate of Origin (COO). If your company produces a product
that is shipped internationally, it is likely that a COO is required by
the importing country. Did you know that GRCA offers its members
significant discounts on every COO? With discounts like this, a
GRCA membership will quickly pay for itself.
Kirsten Haas, GRCA Director of Membership Services, offers
a couple of easy ways to maximize your membership in 2020. The
best part? These great tips won't take too much time away from your
business and life for you to reap the benefits.
I hope 2020 turns out to be a great year for business attraction
and retention in Berks County. I hope you find ways to be a more
active GRCA member. I hope your business grows and achieves
more success. I also hope I find time to make and keep a New Year's
resolution, but that is highly unlikely.
