Leading the Way
to the Future
By Mark Dolinski, Vice President of Professional Development & Training, GRCA

he COVID-19 pandemic has been the greatest challenge
to our country and our leaders in a generation. 2020 will
be remembered as the year of disruption in all facets of our
lives. New words, actions and ways of thinking entered our daily
routines including social-distancing, essential worker, elbow bumps,
facial masks and the new normal. Businesses and organizations had
to abruptly adapt to new ways of conducting business to survive and
whole industries and sectors of our economy were thrown into chaos.

T

People want to know and connect with leaders. Business leaders are
being asked to share who they are an lead in the public eye with
authenticity, honesty and integrity, " Forbes, 2020.

The ingenuity of the American worker and the reimagining of
business operations in all sectors of the economy ranging from
manufacturing, healthcare, retail, small business and the service
sector brought out the best in American business. The pandemic
forced businesses to transition from incremental to exponential
change. Employees struggled to keep up with the rapid pace of
change, and this was no different with leaders of organizations
large and small. Leaders had to weigh the influx of a multitude of
simultaneous changes including economic, health, logistical and
disruptions in their own personal lives.

Beginning March 2, the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance
(GRCA) is presenting its newest Leadership Development program,
Essentials of Effective Leadership. This program is specially designed
to challenge leaders with their way of thinking and showing up to
help unleash their full potential. Times have changed, professionals
don't want to attend academic lectures or be given a list of the top five
things to do to be a leader. Professionals want stimulating discussion
and to be challenged to consider new possibilities and learn new
ways to formulate decisions and create sustainable solutions. To learn

So now that 2020 is over, can we take a breath and slow down? 2021
will continue the pace of change brought about by the acceleration
and deployment of technology. Advances in information technology,
artificial intelligence and digitalization will not abate. " Pivoting
online is no longer just a good idea - it's quite literally essential, "
said Jeremy Moser, marketing expert and co-founder of uSERP.

By creating small group, interactive classes where professionals
from diverse organizations are able to explore and expand their own
perceptions and learn from the experiences of other leaders, true
breakthroughs are able to materialize. The cross pollination of ideas
and concepts are the experiences leaders are looking for in 2021 to
continue their growth as authentic leaders and lead the way to the
future.

Leaders today need to up their game; employee and customer
expectations have grown. " Business has become increasingly personal.

Harnessing the skills to both share a compelling vision of leveraging
new technologies while showing up to stakeholders as an authentic
leader steeped with integrity will challenge leaders at every level of
the organization. This also provides a tremendous opportunity to
grow, learn new ways of thinking, and yes, have fun.
