practices in a few different areas, but we knew that this group was one
that offered an opportunity to work with a special group of people.
As for practicing in Lancaster County, it has been a great honor for me to
serve a community that has provided so much for me through my life.
I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to care for teachers, friends
and family friends, and many others with whom I have meaningful
connections in addition to our doctor-patient relationships. My wife, who
comes from New York, and I love this community and know that it is a
wonderful place for our son to grow up.

What do you like best about practicing medicine?
The relationships with patients are what drew me to medicine and
remain my favorite part. In the office, my patients and I get to know each
other well as we address important health care issues together. Even in
the hospital, where my relationships with patients are not necessarily
continuous, they are still very meaningful interactions as I am helping
patients during some of their most difficult times.

Are you involved in any community, non-profit,
or professional organizations? If so, please list
the groups:

I am a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. I have
enjoyed serving as an alumni interviewer for University of Pennsylvania,
my undergraduate alma mater.
Professionally, I am a member of the American College of Physicians and
try to attend internal medicine conferences with regularity.

What are your hobbies and interests when you're
not working?

Penn State Health Medical Group -
Lime Spring
Where do you practice and why did you settle in your
present location or community?

I practice as an internist with Penn State Health Medical Group - Lime Spring,
which includes outpatient primary care medicine as well as hospitalist medicine at
Lancaster General Hospital and Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital. We were formerly well known as General Internal Medicine, and my history with this group goes
way back. I had the pleasure of growing up in the Lancaster community and went
to Hempfield schools with the daughters of our group's founding partner, Dr. Larry
Bieber. As my dreams of becoming a doctor root back to my youngest years, I was
very fortunate that Larry Bieber, serving as a mentor for me, gave me opportunities
to shadow him and learn about medical practice in the office and in the hospital.
I enjoyed being in the medical office setting and worked with General Internal
Medicine as part of the business office staff during summers through high school,
college, and even after college and before medical school. Through this experience, I got to know the wonderful collection of physicians and staff that make up
this medical practice. When my wife, Dr. Jennie Barbieri, and I were leaving Philadelphia and looking for an internal medicine practice to join, we evaluated several

I love spending time with my family. My son, Evan, is six years old and
keeps us very busy. We love travel and enjoy opportunities for a little
day trip or a big trip overseas. I speak French and have enjoyed studying
the French language, history, and culture, so trips to Paris or anywhere
in France are particularly exciting for me. I enjoy swimming for exercise
and for pleasure. I value time outdoors in general, so walking, hiking, or
biking are all great adventures for me. Music is another of my favorite
hobbies. I sing and have learned to play some piano. I greatly appreciate
the strong theater and performance culture we have in Lancaster and
enjoy seeing and supporting local theater.

For what reason(s) did you become a member
of the Lancaster City & County Medical
Society and what do you value most about
your membership?

Through LCCMS, I appreciate the opportunity to have more interactions
with physicians outside the busy clinical setting. Health care in the
United States is rapidly changing, and I still want physicians to be a
part of designing how things change because we are so fully invested
in patient care and outcomes. We need to keep fostering environments
for physicians to collaborate, to support one another, and to be strong
leaders. LCCMS helps provide that.
