SPRING 2021

President's Message

O

n one hand, when we look back
on where we were this time in
2020, it seems like this past year
has flown by.  On the other, it
seems like the longest year ever. 
COVID-19 and related issues continue to
dominate our personal and private lives, taking
a toll on the mental health of our staff, patients,
and ourselves. However, we have made great
strides with vaccinations and social distancing. 
I could not be prouder to be a practicing
physician in Lancaster, and a member of the
Lancaster City & County Medical Society,
after watching everyone pull together to help
vaccinate each other and our vulnerable populations. I give a special thank you to our health
systems that banded together and worked
tirelessly to create community vaccination
sites for Lancaster County. 
There is still much that individual physicians
might do to educate our patient populations
and to set a good example by continued mask
wearing and common sense.  Please battle
rumors and false information daily to educate
as many people as possible. Sometimes, hearing
facts from a trusted health care professional
can make a difference. 
While I do not think we will ever return to
" normal, " there will be a new normal as we
emerge from under this burden and we will
have new information to help us plan for the
future. While LCCMS hopes to not overwhelm

everyone with too many Zoom meetings, we
will continue to provide quality opportunities
for engagement. 
* Ladies, and any interested gentlemen,
look for some Women's Physician Section
updates and programs, which will likely
be preceded by an online " social " period. 
* We hope to add an Early Career Physician
event soon.
* Our annual dinner has a chance of being
in person in September. Please stay tuned
for more information.

Vaccinate Lancaster Coalition and
other opportunities
* Our scholarship program continues to
provide funding to Lancaster County
residents attending medical school who
demonstrate financial need and exemplify
good character, motivation, and academic excellence. Please consider donating
to this program-we need more doctors
to contribute!
