D

ecades' location might have escaped your notice as you
passed by it on Queen Street many times in the past.
However, now the former Stahr Armory building has been
transformed into a restaurant-and so much more-and
we decided to check it out. As you enter, it is clear there is more
going on there than food and drinks. They have a good-sized arcade
with lots of classic games to enjoy with friends and a few bowling
lanes, as well.
Despite bowling fun going on a few yards away, the dining atmosphere isn't terribly loud. The booths are comfortable and the service
friendly. The menu is Southern homestyle cooking. We elected
to go with the "grilled cheese charcuterie" appetizer, which was a
foreshadowing of Decades' various casual twists on common foodie
trends. The small grilled cheeses were done with simple bread and
ample butter and then paired with a nice selection of meats, pickles,
cranberry citrus jam, and beer mustard.

without the heaviness that greasy chicken can leave you with.
It was a fairly large portion, and even with a decent appetite,
you'll take home leftovers. The crispy eggplant was hearty, spicy,
and filling-and also a surprising find on a "Southern" menu.
Lancaster's vegan/vegetarian crowd would do well to take heed
of their veggie-friendly options, all marked on the menu. 
After dinner, we paid the bill and explored the rest of their
offerings. We took some time pursuing the arcade and bowling
alley, and we made plans to return in the future. The night was
a success, and we would highly recommend Decades to you if
this night out sounds enjoyable to you as you read this. A word
of advice: leave some extra time to enjoy the games, bowling,
or perhaps another cocktail.

Our cocktails were mixology creations with fun twists. We tried
the "Ryu," which involved using a small hammer to break the frozen
sphere of one cocktail into another cocktail. Decades also offers
pairings of mini-cocktails with craft beers, classed-up versions of
the "shot and a beer" concept you may have seen in college or at
a dive bar.

For our main courses, we ordered the "buttermilk fried chicken"
and "crispy eggplant" with a side of cornbread, as we weren't going
to leave a Southern restaurant without trying the fried chicken
