A Scavenger Hunt for the Entire Family
Last year, the Montgomery County Health Department, Planning
Commission, and Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites collaborated
to create the Montco Trail Challenge as a family-friendly way
to reduce health risk factors while simultaneously connecting
residents with parks and trails across the county. The Montco Trail
Challenge functions as a free scavenger hunt, with 13 participating
parks and trails each having a unique symbol placed at trail heads
or parking lots. The goal is to visit and correctly identify as many
symbols as possible by the end of the challenge. In 2016, 1,500
people participated, ranging in age from 6 months to 73 years old.
The 2017 Montco Trail Challenge began in May and ends Dec.

Montgomery County Improving Bicycle
Mobility, Too
Montgomery County also has a new Bike Montco plan that will
help improve bicycle mobility on our roadways. In addition to
making recommendations about which roads should be upgraded
to accommodate bicyclists, the plan will focus on safe bicycle
routes to parks and trails, in towns, to schools, and to transit
stations. Bike Montco supports a major goal of Montco 2040:
A Shared Vision, "to provide more opportunities for residents to
exercise and have healthy lives."
