PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Fellow Members,
The first two months of 2017 have been a whirlwind of activity. From Norristown
to St. Kitts, Miami to State College, and to the halls of the General Assembly in
Harrisburg, the business of the MBA goes everywhere.

Cross-Bar Conferences and Events
The Montgomery Bar Association has a marquee reputation built and earned by our
members over decades. Part of continuing that reputation is participation in national
and statewide conferences to share ideas and learn of new trends, and also to see where
our association leads or lags.

In early February, we attended the National Conference of Bar Presidents in Miami.
There, while attending a conference on retaining newer lawyers, I learned that the
MBA's Leadership Academy is far ahead of the curve. Many large metropolitan bar
associations do not have leadership academies, and the concept remains a cutting edge
tool to develop, train and retain young lawyer membership. Recently, our Leadership
Academy attended a panel discussion and reception with members of our bench,
including President Judge Thomas M. Del Ricci, Hon. Todd Eisenberg, Hon. Joseph
P. Walsh, Hon. Gail A. Weilheimer, Hon. Steven C. Tolliver, Sr., and Hon. Risa Vetri
Ferman, as well as Hon. Mark A. Kearney of the United States District Court for the
Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Our Past President, Hon. Carolyn Tornetta Carluccio,
moderated this insightful program on leadership.
Social media presence also varies from bar to bar. However, those associations that
embrace social media choose to open the door for more complete, up-to-the-minute
interaction and engagement among members. Positive Twitter and Facebook exchanges,
"viral" posts of good deeds, well-attended events, historical bar commentary, quotes,
relevant headlines and breaking legal news, all engage members, and put a public
spotlight on that association. A robust, lively and smart social media presence is no
longer optional. The MBA launched its new website in March, and I again encourage
