EXPERIENCE
Is Invaluable

e have all heard the clichés: " experience matters "
or " there is no substitute for experience. " Both are
perhaps a bit overused at times, but are clearly
meaningful to lawyers who try cases, particularly in front
of juries. Experience is the advantage acquired through
repetition over time, and the exposure and effective reaction
to the unexpected, which enables the trial lawyer to hone his
or her craft. It is this aspect of a trial lawyer's skill set which
is the focus of the Montgomery Bar Association Trial Lawyers
Section (TLS) agenda of monthly presentations for 2021.
Two years ago, the TLS agenda focused on the components
of a jury trial from Opening Statement to Closing Argument
culminating with a mock trial presented by two experienced
Montgomery Bar Association (MBA) trial lawyers. Last
year, the TLS agenda focused upon the presentation of
various, commonly retained expert witnesses. This year, in
our ongoing mission to help sharpen the skills of the MBA
trial lawyer, including the young trial lawyer, we shall present
monthly presentations in a year-long program entitled, " Tips
& Techniques From Experienced Trial Lawyers. "
Each month, beginning in February, through November
2021, one or more experienced trial lawyers and judges

from the Montgomery Bar Association will make an hourlong presentation about a case won and a case lost in a
particular practice area, and the lessons learned from each
experience. The series kicked off on February 25, 2021,
with a presentation by Robert Morris and Seth Wilson of
Morris Wilson Knepp Jacquette, P.C., to be followed by other
prominent trial lawyers in the succeeding months. The plan
is for the series to culminate in November 2021 with a joint
presentation by members of the TLS and the Real Estate
Section with a focus on real estate litigation at the Delaware
Valley Legal Expo. Monthly announcements will precede each
presentation identifying the date, time, identity of the speakers
and the particular practice area. Please be sure to register for
what promises to be an enlightening, provocative, educational
experience worthy of one substantive CLE credit for each
presentation.
The program is also being offered this year to members of
the Young Lawyers Section. If you are a young trial lawyer
who wants to gain valuable insights into effectively trying
cases, take advantage of this opportunity and register each
month to listen to the " war stories " and wisdom born from
experience. We look forward to your participation.
