Young Lawyers Section
Performs a Month of Service

T

his May, the Young Lawyers Section continued its
tradition of performing a "May Month of Service."
In order to increase the volunteer opportunities to its
members and the Bar as a whole, the YLS undertook four separate
service dates this year, supporting two important Montgomery
County social service providers: delivering Meals on Wheels out of
the Norristown Senior Adult Activity Center, and preparing and
serving meals at the Cecil and Grace Bean Soup Kitchen.
Spearheaded by YLS Community Outreach Liaison, Timothy
Knowles, over a dozen different young lawyers, and several
other members of the Bar, volunteered their time - with several
individuals coming out for multiple days - to prepare and deliver
meals on two weekday mornings for Meals on Wheels, and to
prepare and serve meal on two Saturday mornings for the
Soup Kitchen.

Meals on Wheels
delivers meals to homebound seniors who are
unable to drive or cook for themselves, every Monday through
Friday, every week of the year. Volunteers help to package prepared
meals, and then deliver the meals to the seniors' homes, where
they visit and socialize with the recipients.
Meals on Wheels in Montgomery County has been delivering
meals for over forty years, and relies on more than 200 volunteers.
The Cecil and Grace Bean Soup Kitchen is located at the former
St. John's Episcopal Church on Airy Street in Norristown, and
serves over 600 warm meals on a weekly basis. They have been
serving the hungry of Norristown for over thirty years. The YLS
has volunteered with the Soup Kitchen every year as part of its
May Month of Service, since the tradition was initiated five years
ago by former YLS President Bill Roark.
