That drive to give back, to have a positive effect on the
lives of young people, is as central to Watson's legal practice
as her deep knowledge of pharmaceutical chemistry and
intellectual property law.
"It doesn't take a whole lot of your time, just that you
stop a minute and take the time to provide someone some
guidance," Watson said.
But it doesn't happen by itself, Watson said.
"Mentoring takes a village," Watson said. "Having a
positive impact on the lives of others requires the deliberate
and intentional effort of many."
It's one of the central lessons Jack said she has learned from
her time with Watson, who requires those she mentors to, in
turn, mentor others. Jack has already participated in a video
conference with students in the Day In Court program to
share her story.
"All the kids asked me questions," Jack said. "I love that.
I have been there. I was just as lost when I started too. To be
able to give back, especially to minority students and share
what I have gone through to get to where I am today. She has
had a profound effect."

Watson continues to pass along her passion for mentoring,
and giving others a hand up.
"The same thing that shows through her work, she
shows to me as well," Jack said. "She is always sure that I
am cognizant of that. That is why I like talking to students
so much. Just the other day, one of her other mentees was
applying to law school. She said, 'Ashleigh you have been
through this, read her personal statement and tell her what
you think.'"
Jack clearly has a bright future. And when that day comes,
it is equally certain that she will take the time to share the
lessons she has learned along the way with the next generation
of up-and-coming lawyers.
Watson said she is just so excited to see her efforts and the
efforts of others come full circle.
"Just think about it, the initiatives taken over seven years
ago have led a high school student through college into the
doors of law school and back to where she began now working
as a summer intern in the Summer 1L Diversity Program,"
Watson said. "That is what the pipeline is all about."
