Indulge in a Sweet Escape
at Bench Bar 2019

s the country reeled from the economic disaster soon to
be known as "The Great Depression," Milton S. Hershey
was faced with a dilemma. Over 600 construction
workers lived in town and Hershey felt a responsibility to keep
them employed. In addition to plans to construct a community
building and high school, he and his wife Catherine dreamed
of opening a "grand hotel" in the Mediterranean style. And
so, during the worst economic crisis this nation had ever faced,
Milton Hershey built a luxury resort hotel.1

Built in just over a year, The Hotel Hershey® opened its doors

Asked why he chose this luxurious location for Bench Bar
2019, President Gregory R. Gifford remarked, "when my wife
Mary and I visited The Hotel Hershey we were enamored with
it - the storied history, the gardens, everything. I was hoping
to find a location that had something for everyone, The Hotel
Hershey was the obvious choice." According to its website, the
hotel is "known for its refined elegance, signature service, and
abundant amenities" and it has received "both the Forbes FourStar Award and the AAA Four-Diamond Award."2
In addition to its deluxe accommodations, the resort boasts
not one, but two 18-hole private courses available only to
members and guests of Hershey resorts. More of a disc golfer?
Enjoy a 9-hole disc golf course located behind the hotel. Guests
can also take a dip in the upgraded pool complex, which features
a splash pad for kids. Other resort activities include tennis,
basketball, volleyball, hiking trails, Segway tours, even falconry!
Hotel guests can also visit Hersheypark® and ZooAmerica® with
complimentary shuttle service and discounted tickets. With
other area attractions like Troegs Brewery and Tanger Outlets
