A

nyone who has spent time with our members is acutely
aware of how hard they work making a living. What is
equally apparent, however, is that they also embody the
wisdom of Winston Churchill's reminder that "We make a living
by what we get. We make a life by what we give." Montgomery Bar
Association members work hard every day - making a living AND
making a life. While the spirit of giving is most-easily embraced
by many during the holidays, members of the MBA make such a
life throughout the year. Here are just some of the ways that our
members, firms and others in our legal community have defined
their lives in 2019:

Young Lawyers Section
The Young Lawyers Section organized a charity food drive to
benefit Manna on Main Street. Founded in 1981, Manna on Main
Street is committed to ending hunger in the North Penn region by
providing food, fulfilling social service and education needs, and
conducting community outreach. Donations were collected at the
Young Lawyers Section Holiday Party, the MBA Building, and the
following firms:

SIDEBAR FEATURE

The season kicked off with a collection of non-perishable
foods and durable goods for contribution to Laurel House, a
Montgomery County home and resource for abused women and
their children. Each year, the firm strives to provide even more than
the year before to benefit this very worthwhile organization. In
2019, we also donated prepared foods to the Lamb Foundation in
the week before Thanksgiving. (The Lamb Foundation is a private
nonprofit organization based in Montgomery County, which
provides affordable housing and support services to senior citizens
and adult individuals with mental, physical, and developmental
disabilities who would otherwise be homeless.)
But man does not live by bread alone. In addition to their
efforts to nourish the bodies of those in need, the firm strives
to feed the spirits of a local family in crisis, with whom they are
matched by The Dolan Family Fund. This organization helps to
provide holiday gifts to seriously ill and disabled children and
their families. The Dolan Family Fund fills provides the needs
and challenges faced by, and a wish list for each member of, our
adopted family. The HRMM&L family answers the call with
piles of new toys, books, clothing, shoes, coats, gift cards, and any
other item requested, and then some. Material gifts are only part
of the equation, however; what the firm truly hopes to provide to
our adopted family is a day to focus on the wonder and joy of the
holidays, and to feel the love we send along with each package.
From all of us at HRMM&L to all of you, a joyous holiday
season and a New Year filled with happiness!

The message that it is better to give than to receive is not lost
on the firm of Hamburg, Rubin, Mullin, Maxwell & Lupin, where
plans to share good fortune are made before the leaves begin to
turn each fall.

In 2019, Wisler Pearlstine, LLP expanded its support of
charitable and nonprofit organizations that serve the needy in
Montgomery County to include an organization that serves
struggling families and individuals, including the homeless, in the
Germantown section of Philadelphia. While we are humbled by
the ever-increasing need in our community, which is largely hidden
from view, our sustained, collective effort has proven to be far
more powerful than we could have imagined. We look forward to
continuing to support these very fine organizations in 2020.
