Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST)

Opioid Abuse Crisis
Numerous bills have already been introduced, including
House Bill 288, which would require insurance plans to cover
abuse-deterrent opioids.
HB 288 Prime Sponsor: Representative Doyle Heffley
Current Status: HB 288 was referred to House Insurance Committee
on Feb. 2, 2017.
Legislation: The opioid abuse crisis continues to impact Pennsylvania, and PAMED will support commonsense legislation that allows
physicians to determine the best course of action for patients.

Current Status: PAMED sent a letter on Feb. 24, 2017, to ask Pennsylvania lawmakers to co-sponsor the POLST bill.
PAMED Position: PAMED will
support legislation that provides
a framework and legal authority
for POLST. POLST would help
individuals determine personal
end-of-life decisions regarding
cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and other medical interventions.
