Preventing and treating Lyme disease

You can help prevent tick bites by knowing where to expect
ticks. Ticks tend to live in moist, humid environments and typically in or near grassy or wooded areas. You may also come into
contact with ticks in outdoor areas around your home or when
walking through shrubs. Try to avoid walking in the center of
trails and avoiding tall vegetation.

In addition, you can apply a bug and tick repellent that contains
DEET to your clothing, shoes and socks before going outside.
What you wear helps too - dress in long sleeves, tuck your shirt
into your pants, and tuck pants into socks or shoes.

Microdermabrasion * Juvederm®/Radiesse®

When you come back indoors, examine your body and clothes
for ticks. Be sure to check anyone else who was outside with you,
including pets, as they can carry ticks inside and transfer them
to you and your family members. If you think you might have
been exposed to a tick, take a shower and wash your hair. It's also
good practice to immediately wash any clothing worn outdoors.

If you do discover a tick, try not to panic. Newly attached
ticks are often easy to remove. Extract the tick immediately
using fine-tipped tweezers and save it in a sealed container for
analysis, if possible.

It takes 24 to 48 hours for an infected tick to transmit Lyme
disease. However, not all ticks carry Lyme disease.
Lyme disease is usually successfully treated with a few weeks
of antibiotics. However, even after effective antibiotic treatment,
it could take a few months for you to feel completely back to
"normal." Your doctor will work closely with you to identify
ways to manage your symptoms.

Community-based
Patient-centered
Innovative education

Preventing Lyme disease is much better than trying to cure
it. If you do notice a tick or tick bite, talk to your doctor right
away about your risks. Early treatment is always preferred.
