Feature
Reflecting an "it-takes-a-village" mindset,
the Healthy MOMS team - now comprised
of hospitals, social service agencies, the
legal system, treatment providers and
more - aims to provide pregnant
women with opioid use disorder with
the full spectrum of medical and
wrap-around resources.
Funding and Sustainability
The Healthy MOMS program is the result of invested
regional stakeholders and a true community approach. The
initial $448,763 in state funding was awarded through a Federal
Opioid-State Targeted Response grant to the Lackawanna/
Susquehanna Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs. Along
with the initial state funding, AllOne Foundation subsequently
awarded a $500,000 grant to Maternal and Family Health
Services and The Wright Center for Community Health to
reach residents in a wider service area, including Luzerne,
Pike, Wayne and Wyoming counties. Others in the community, including Parker Hill Church, have made significant
financial donations to support the women on their journey
into motherhood.
Services are provided regardless of the woman's insurance
status or inability to pay.
The engaged and growing list of community partners includes:
Lackawanna/Susquehanna Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs,
Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family Services,
Susquehanna County Children and Youth Services, AllOne
Foundation, The Wright Center for Community Health, Outreach
Center for Community Resources, Catherine McAuley Center,
Community Care Behavioral Health Organization, Geisinger
Health System, Parker Hill Church, Scranton Primary Health
Center, St. Joseph's Center, Marywood University, Maternal
and Family Health Services Inc., Moses Taylor Hospital, and
United Neighborhood Centers.
New partners are welcomed to join the effort.
